Beyond ISDS – What does the EU’s new investment approach in CETA mean for TTIP and other future trade agreements of the EU?

The seminar will discuss the new investment chapter in CETA and its implications for future trade agreements. How will investment protection and dispute settlement be dealt with in the future?

What is the future of the EU’s new approach to international investment disputes? Based on the creation of investment courts, the ambition of the EU is to centre future trade and investment agreements on the new system. Canada and the EU have now included it in the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). What has been the approach of Canada in these talks, and does it intend to use it in its other trade agreements? Will other countries also be receptive to Europe’s desire to change the design of investment protection? Will it be part of TTIP? The seminar will be co-hosted by the Canada Europe Roundtable for Business (CERT) and ECIPE.
