EU Funds - research calls for ICT and materials engineering
In 2017 the EU will finance two calls for research projects in ICT and in materials engineering.
> Horizon 2020 - EU Prize for Women Innovators 2017
> Horizon 2020 – prizes for energy efficiency
The call for proposals which will be supported by the EU are: CHIST-ERA and M-era.NET 2.
CHIST-ERA
CHIST-ERA stands for European Coordinated Research on Long-term Challenges in Information and Communication Sciences & Technologies ERA-NET. It is a coordination and co-operation activity of national (and regional) research funding organisations mainly in Europe and is supported by the European Union under the ERA-NET funding scheme of the FP7. The aim is to reinforce the transnational collaboration between the participating states in challenging multidisciplinary research in the area of ICST with the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs.
In the Call 2017, to be published in October 2017, two new topics are addressed, namely:
- Object recognition and manipulation by robots,
- Industrial big data and process modelling for smart factories.
The CHIST-ERA Conference 2017 in Kraków, June 12-14, brings together scientists and CHIST-ERA representatives in order to identify and formulate promising scientific and technological challenges at the frontier of research with a view to refine the scientific content of the call. The conference is open to the research community. The definitive list of the participating funding organisations will be published in the call text in October 2017.
M-era.NET 2
M-era.NET is an EU funded network which has been established in 2012 to support and increase the coordination of European research and innovation programmes and related funding in materials science and engineering. Between 2016 and 2021, the M-era.NET consortium will continue - under the Horizon 2020 - to contribute to the restructuring of the European Research Area (ERA) by operating a single innovative and flexible network of national and regional funding organisations.
The Call 2017 will include the following thematic areas:
- Integrated computational materials engineering (ICME)
- Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces
- High performance composites
- Multifunctional materials
- New strategies for advanced material-based technologies in health applications
- Materials for additive manufacturing
The Call is expected to open in March 2017; the deadline for the mandatory pre-proposal submission is expected to be in June 2017.
