EU - awards for green cities
The European Commission launched the search for the next cities to be crowned European Green Capital in 2019 and European Green Leaf in 2018

European Green Capital 2019
The European Green Capital award is given each year to a European city with a proven record of high environmental standards and outstanding commitment to sustainable urban development. Cities with a population of more than 100,000 inhabitants can apply to be European Green Capital.
Applications are open until the 3rd of November 2016.
The finalists of the 2018 European Green Capital award are the following cities:
- 's-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands)
- Nijmegen (The Netherlands)
- Umeå (Sweden)
The winners will be announced on the 22nd of June 2016.
European Green Leaf 2018
The European Green Leaf award recognizes smaller-sized cities (20,000 - 100,000 inhabitants) for their achievements in this field. Applications are open until the 3rd of November 2016.
In the European Green Leaf 2017 competition, these three cities are in the final round:
- Cornellà de Llobregat (Spain)
- Galway (Ireland)
- Mikkeli (Finland)
The winners will be announced on the 22nd of June 2016.
